S unny hello card using Stampin' Up! products and masking and blending techniques.
Project Recipe
Cut cardstock and Masking Paper pieces to the following sizes using a Paper Trimmer:
- card from Azure Afternoon Cardstock at 5-1/2" x 8-1/2" and scored at 4-1/4"
- 4" x 5-1/4" from Crushed Curry Cardstock
- 3-7/8" x 5-1/8" from Basic White Cardstock
- 2-1/2" square from Basic White Cardstock
- 2 squares each 2-1/2" square from Masking Paper
Mount the Rays Of Light stamp on Block F. Leave the stamp rubber side up on your work surface.
Rub a Blending Brush across the open Crushed Curry Ink Pad to get it inky. Lightly rub the inky Blending Brush across the rubber of the Rays Of Light stamp. Get more ink on the Blending Brush as needed. .Do NOT go all the way to the edges of the stamp. Set the Blending Brush aside for now.
Leave the stamp inky rubber side up on your work surface. Carefully place the large white rectangle on top of the inky stamp. Place a piece of Grid Paper on top of the cardstock/inky rubber and rub firmly all over. Remove the Grid Paper and the inked up cardstock rectangle.
As you are ready to stamp using the Circle Sayings Set, place the cardstock on the Stampin' Pierce Mat. Using the mat will help you get a cleaner image each time you stamp.
Mount the sentiment of choice from the Circle Sayings Set on Block B. Ink it up with the Azure Afternoon Ink Pad. Stamp it in the upper left corner of the stamped white rectangle so the rectangle is horizontal and the open sun circle is in the lower right corner.
Adhere the stamped white rectangle to the center of the Crushed Curry rectangle.
Cut a 5-3/4" piece of the Azure Afternoon ribbon from the 3/8" Sheer Ribbon Combo Pack.
Lay the ribbon across the matted cardstock rectangle so it is about 7/8" from the bottom edge and just overlaps the bottom of the open sun circle on the rays image. Fold the ends of the ribbon over and secure the ribbon in place on the back with strips of Tear & Tape Adhesive.
Remove the protective backings from the Tear & Tape pieces and add Stampin' Seal to the back of the Crushed Curry rectangle. Adhere the rectangle to the front of the Azure Afternoon card.
Mount the sun and wave circle image from the Circle Sayings Set on Block D. Use the side of the brush tip of the Crushed Curry Stampin' Write Marker to ink up the sun, sun's rays, and birds. Use the side of the brush tip of the Azure Afternoon Stampin' Write Marker to ink up the wave. Breathe on the stamp to moisten the ink. Stamp it in the center of the white cardstock square. Clean the stamp using the Stampin' Scrub and Stampin' Mist Stamp Cleaner and/or Simply Shammy, but leave it on the block.
Pick out the stitched circle die from the Stylish Shapes Dies that cuts out a circle that is 2-1/8" diameter. Put it on top of the stamped image on a platform on your Stampin' Cut & Emboss Machine so it is centered over the image. Run through the machine.
Re-ink the sun and waves image on Block D using any of the ink pads (it doesn't matter which). Stamp it in the center of both of the Masking Paper squares remembering to re-ink the stamp each time. Clean the stamp and put it away.
Use Paper Snips Scissors to carefully cut the sun, sun rays, and birds off of one of the Masking Paper images so you are left with a mask of the waves.
Place the waves mask over the top of the waves stamped on the white cardstock circle.
Work on Grid Paper to protect your work surface. Rub the Blending Brush used earlier across the open Crushed Curry Ink Pad to get it inky again. Rub most of the ink off on Grid Paper. Very lightly rub the inky Blending Brush across the center of the circle image inking up the center of the sun and a little bit into the rays. Get more ink on the Blending Brush as needed.
Remove the mask.
Tip: Save the mask by putting it in the stamp case so you can use it again on future projects.
Use Paper Snips Scissors to carefully cut the wave off of the other Masking Paper image so you are left with a mask of the sun, sun rays, birds, and froth at the top of the wave.
Place the sun and froth mask over the top of the sun and froth image stamped on the white circle cut out.
Work on Grid Paper to protect your work surface. Rub a second Blending Brush across the open Lost Lagoon Ink Pad to get it inky. Rub most of the ink off on Grid Paper. Very lightly rub the inky Blending Brush across the center of the wave image under the froth where the shadow would make the water darker. Get more ink on the Blending Brush as needed.
Work on Grid Paper to protect your work surface. Rub a third Blending Brush across the open Azure Afternoon Ink Pad to get it inky. Rub most of the ink off on Grid Paper. Very lightly rub the inky Blending Brush across the rest of the wave image blending it into the darker part of the wave. Get more ink on the Blending Brush as needed.
Remove the mask.
Tip: Save the mask by putting it in the stamp case so you can use it again on future projects.
Tip: I just clean my Blending Brushes when I'm done using them by running them under water until no more color is coming off. Then, I let them air dry. They may be stained, but they are clean enough to use with any color of ink in the future.
Use the fine tip of the Lost Lagoon Stampin' Write Marker to draw over the birds stamped in yellow on the circle image.
Use Stampin' Dimensionals to adhere the circle cut out to the front of the card so it overlaps the ribbon a bit and covers the open, sun circle on the rays image.
Cut a 3-1/2" piece of the Azure Afternoon ribbon from the 3/8" Sheer Ribbon Combo Pack.
Tie a half knot in the center of the ribbon. Trim the ends.
Use a Mini Glue Dot to adhere the ribbon knot to the front of the card at a slight angle as shown so it is centered over the ribbon on the lower right side of the circle cut out.
