Notes from the Beach

I am at the beach (Ponce Inlet, FL) for the month of June so will probably not be posting as often as I usually do.  My daughter and her family have been here all week and I wanted to spend time with them.  They are leaving today so I'll be able to clear off the dining room table and play with my new products that arrived this week.  I need to get Father's Day cards made for my hubby and my dad.

Speaking of my dad... he really scared us this week.  He had to go to the hospital with shortness of breath (he had a touch of pneumonia) and came home in horrible shape the next day.  We truly thought he was dying!  They gave him some medication that lowered his blood pressure and he collapsed.  I really think he would have died if we hadn't gotten him into his recliner and gotten his feet up.  At the hospital he overheard some nurses talking about him and believed he was dying.  We couldn't convincde him otherwise.  And then yesterday a nurse came to check on him (we had called in hospice because we thought him dying) and she was so surprised at how well he had recovered.  She's now convinced him he's not dying anytime soon.  It's nice that my dad lives at the beach so I can spend time with him plus enjoy the beach!  I know my time with him is limited (he's almost 98) so I'm happy to be able to spend time down here with him.

I'll be sharing the Father's Day cards I make later this week so check back!

"Hugs from Shelli" May Paper Pumpkin kit

The May Paper Pumpkin kit "Hugs from Shelli" was designed by Stampin' Up! co-founder, Shelli Gardner.  It is a beautiful kit of 12 note cards of 4 designs.  I made some of the cards as directed --well, kinda as directed--I did use different sentiments than on the samples.  I'll be carrying those notecards around with me to hand out as "thank you" cards to the many people I come in contact with.

I also cut up one of each card to make full-sized cards.

Here are close-ups of those cards

And this one I colored in with my Blends

The coordinating colors for this kit were Crumb Cake, Mossy Meadow, Old Olive, Petal Pink, Pool Party, Pretty Peacock, Soft Suede, and Very Vanilla.

When making your cards, don't forget to "pretty up" the envelopes too!  Then even the mailman gets a glimpse at what's inside!

You may not be able to get this kit (unless there are still some extras) but you can still subscribe and get the June kit.  You can subscribe month-to-month or purchase a prepaid kit (6 months and 12 months subscriptions save you money).  We've been given some sneak peeks:

This kit has 16 small notes (not mailable unless you put in a larger envelope) with a special tote to hold the little notes. These are beachy fun to spread a little joy around!  They are perfect for holding a gift card or adding as an enclosure for a gift.  Pass them around to people you see when out and about!  I'll be making these as "thank yous" for passing out around town.  Colors are Coastal Cabana, Old Olive, and Crumb Cake.

Everything Is Rosy One Sheet Wonder Cards

I love to make One Sheet Wonder cards!  It's so easy to create a bunch of cards with one sheet of Designer Series paper or any pretty paper!  I have templates for 6 x 6. 8-1/2 x 11, and 12 x 12 papers.  I am in a One Sheet Wonder Club, run by Jessica Taylor and we get a new template, video and card samples every single month!  Sometimes we even make our own pretty paper!  It's loads of fun and a perk of being in Jessica's downline (you could join my team and also get this perk!)

The first set of cards I've made with my May template (a 6x6 one) uses the Everything is Rosy Medley, available only until the end of May (or "as supplies last").

This is what you get in the Everything Is Rosy Medley:

It really is gorgeous in person!  Rose gold foil paper plus Rose Gold Shimmer paint!  Two rolls of ribbon! Stamps and Dies you can use over and over! I can't wait to make more cards using this medley!  And I plan to make some cards using different colors and different paper.

If you are interested in this medley of products, don't delay in ordering!  It's going fast and available only until the end of the month!

Teacher Appreciation Gift Card Holder

My daughter asked me to make gift card holders for Teacher Appreciation Week.  I chose Picked For You as my stamp set (gee, I wish they hadn't retired this set!  It's great for teachers!  You can still get it through May 24).  My card design was inspired by another demonstrator's card (Rosanne Mulhern) and you can check out her post here.  I made mine different in almost all ways except the cutting and design of the card.

It looks complicated but really is not.

Here are all the details:

  • The card base starts with Whisper White Thick 5-1/2" x 11".  Score on the long side at 2-1/2" and 6-3/4" and then at 2-3/4" on the short side up to the 6-3/4" score line.   That will create an A2 card that will fit in regular envelopes.
  • Cut on the 2-3/4" line to remove the top part of the card--stop at the 6-3/4" line.
  • Fold that front panel over to form a gift card pocket.
  • Cut Lemon Lime Twist cardstock at 5-3/8" x 4-1/8" for the main part of the card.  Cut 2 pieces of Lemon Lime Twist at 4-1/8" x 2-5/8" for the small front piece and the piece for the gift card pocket.
  • Cut Poppy Parade cardstock at 5-1/4" x 4"; then cut a piece 4" x 2-1/2" for the front and a piece 2-3/8" x 2-5/8" for the gift card pocket
  • Cut the Gingham Gala paper 5-1/8" x 3-7/8"; cut a second piece at 2-1/8" x 2-3/8"
  • Using the Pocket Framelits die cut a pocket out of Crumb Cake.  Emboss that pocket using the Basket Weave Embossing Folder.
  • On Whisper White Card stock stamp the apples--2 red using Poppy Parade ink and 2 Green using Lemon Lime Twist ink.  Stamp the stems using Early Espresso.

Now for some information on using those apple stamps.  There are 3 stamps that you use.  They are photopolymer so easy to line up.  They are also numbered on the acetate stamp sheet so that you know in what order to use.  For some of these, I stamped them twice to get the look I wanted.  Practice with these stamps first so that you can get the look you want.  And if you don't line them up exactly, just take a little paint brush and some water and smooth out the lines.  I also used some Wink of Stella on the apples in areas I thought would naturally shine.  I then fussy-cut the apples leaving a small border.

For the front sentiment, I stamped in Poppy Parade on Whisper White and die cut using the smallest narrow Stitched Rectangle dies.

For the inside sentiment, I stamped the sentiments in both Poppy Parade and Lemon Lime Twist on Whisper White and die cut using the next to the largest of the ovals in the Stitched Shapes dies.  I backed that with a scallop oval from the Layering Ovals dies.

Putting the front together:  I adhered the embossed pocket to the front of the card and then trimmed off the top that showed over the top edge.  I used my Fast Fuse (you can use whatever adhesive works best for you!) to adhere the red apples to the front and then popped up the green apple using dimensionals.  I added the front sentiment using both snail on the left side and a mini dimensional on the right.

For the gift card pocket:  Put the Poppy Parade piece and the gingham paper on the inside flap.  Using a 1-inch circle punch, cut out a notch.  Add adhesive to the edges of the fold-over piece to create the pocket.  I then added a second green apple to that pocket.

With all the layers, this card is heavier than most so you might not want to mail it.  If you do mail, then you will need additional postage.

Wonderful Moments Baby Shower Card

I was invited to a baby shower for my nephew's wife and their expected son.  Of course, I had to make a card!

I chose Wonderful Moments for this card:

I love how elegant the pearls on the centers of the Tufted 3D embossing folder make this card look!

I started with a base of Whisper White Thick card stock cut at 8-1/2" x 5-1/2", scored at 4-1/4".  The Balmy Blue layer is 5-1/4" x 4" and is embossed using the Big Shot (BTW, the Big Shot is being retired--I can't wait to see what Stampin' Up! comes up with for embossing and die cutting!) with the Tufted 3D embossing folder.  Next, I took a piece of Shimmery White cardstock (I love to use this for watercoloring as it is a little thicker than regular cardstock and holds up well to light amounts of water) and stamped the image using Stazon ink.  Using a dry Aquapainter and the inks from my ink pads (plus a little water I keep in a jar on my desk), I colored the image of the pregnant woman.  I then die cut that image using the Layering Ovals dies.  I adhered that image to the front of the card using dimensionals and then added the small pearls.

For the inside:

I took another piece of Balmy Blue and cut it out with the Stitched Rectangles and cut out a smaller piece of whisper white using a size smaller rectangle.  I stamped the sentiment in Memento Tuxedo Black and added the small gift bag to the bottom left.  I colored that gift bag in with Balmy Blue Blends.  There is a small break in the top of the gift bag (to fit into the hands of one of the images in the stamp set) so I put a larger pearl in that space.

Don't forget these promotions--Both are limited editions:
