Grandson's Soccer Slider Birthday Card

My grandson just turned 7 and loves soccer! He plays on a travelling team and I wanted to do a card that fit his interests. Unfortunately I had to use retired product stamps to create this. Still, you can make something similar using whatever you have on hand.

This card uses Whisper White Heavy card stock as a base and is topped with Pacific Point (5.25 x 4"). The top layer is Whisper White cut to 5 x 3.75".

First I stamped the soccer player using Pacific Point ink. This player comes from the retired set Simply Sports. The stamp itself has a soccer ball on it but I masked that off before inking it up. I wanted to have a regular soccer ball to look as if he is kicking it up. That ball came from a really old set called I Love Soccer. You might have these old sets in your stash. I stamped the ball on Whisper White using Basic Black archival ink and cut it out using the smallest circle die from the Layering Circles Dies.

FYI: Because the Basic Black is an archival ink, it takes a little longer to dry. Be careful that you let it dry so it doesn't smear (ask me how I know that :) )

I used the Sliding Star Thinlit Dies to create the track for the soccer ball. Easy peasy to cut this out using the Big Shot!

The sentiment was also from the Simply Sports stamp set and was stamped on Whisper White in Pacific Point and cut out using the retired Bitty Banners dies. I backed this with a piece of Pacific Point card stock and attached to the card front using dimensionals.

To adhere the top layer, I used the Foam adhesive strips to lift up the top and give space for the soccer ball.

Make sure you don't put it too close to the slider opening so it doesn't impede your slider ball.

To make the ball slide on the opening, I used two pennies (you can also use washers but pennies were what I had at hand!). I trimmed a dimensional down to a small circle and put it in between the two pennies. I then attached the soccer ball using another dimensional.

Now the soccer ball slides and spins along the slider opening!
