Bokeh Birthday

Feb swap bokeh

For our swap card in February, we were to use a special technique or fun fold. I chose Bokeh.

I started with a piece of Whisper White card stock cut to 3.5 x 5". I needed to decide what colors to use for the background and chose Soft Sky, Daffodil Delight, Flirty Flamingo and Sweet Sugarplum.

Using sponge daubers, I daubed the various colors randomly on the card front. Start off the page and dab a little off so it doesn't go on too dark to start with. You can start light and add color as you desire. Since I was making 16 cards, each one was a little different.

FYI: darker colors will show the bokeh technique better but you want the colors to blend without showing the dauber marks

Once you get the colors the way you want, you will start the bokeh technique.

You can cut out circles of various sizes in a piece of acetate or window sheets and use this to add your circles of white craft ink.

Daub your circles with the whisper white craft ink and let dry. Work in different spots on the front so that your white doesn't smear.

You will need to clean off your acetate after each circle or you will transfer that color elsewhere.

You can use your heat tool to dry the circles or let them dry naturally (takes up to several hours). As the white dries, it will become more faint. You can then go back over the areas you want to make more visible. The dauber itself can make a circle.

Set aside to dry and add more if you like.

Once the background is completely dry, you will stamp your sentiment. I decided to stamp mine with the archival Basic Black ink and immediately add clear embossing powder. Heat set.

I attached the background piece to a piece of black card stock cut 1/8" larger all around. I wanted just a tiny frame of black around the background piece.

I then took some thick black baker's twine and wrapped around the piece and tied into a bow. To hold the bow while I tied it, I used a small glue dot. You could also take a separate piece of twine and tie a bow onto the wrapped part.

Using dimensionals I added this card front to a whisper white thick card base.
